World Team Tennis

You’re probably wondering what World Team Tennis is. It was co-founded by Billie Jean King in the 1970s. It’s the only sports league where men and women have equal roles. This professional tennis league features no-ad scoring which means first to 4 points wins the game. On-court coaching happens during the match. The fans are allowed to keep the balls that are hit out of the court. The WTT crowds are encouraged to be noisy and enjoy themselves. The Matches have half-times, Extended Play, and Supertiebreakers.

Many major tennis champions have played WTT, including Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Venus and Serena William, Andy Roddick, Stefanie Graf,
Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova, Lindsay Davenport, John McEnroe, and
Jimmy Connors.

If you have ever seen a WTT match you have seen my philosophy of life in action – men and women, competing together, on a team and both genders making equal contributions to the result.”

Each team has two men, two women, and a coach. The matches have 5 sets, with one set each of men’s & women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The winner of a set is the team that wins five games. A 9 point tiebreaker will happen if a set is 4 games all. Each game won will give the team one point.
