It’s definitely important to have Date Nights once you have kids. Early on, Ivan and I didn’t really go on many date nights. It’s been easier to go on more Date Nights now that we have babysitters.
Recently, we went out two nights in a row. Haven’t done that since I was pregnant! I decided to dress up since it’s fun to dress up and makes me feel pretty.
Ivan and I went to see Justin Tranz on July 16, 2015. Justin is a hypnotist who we’ve seen before. Ivan is a hypnotist and loves to see hypnotist shows. The show was at the Tommy Wind Theatre which used to be Empire Ballroom and Utopia (both nightclubs) before that. We’ve both danced there a few times to the great house music. It brought back memories of fun nights there.
There was a lot of people already sat down from the magic show that was on previously. Ivan said they were asked to stay to fill out the showroom. The showroom was filled with adults and a few families with kids.
Justin Tranz asked for volunteers as long as they were 13 years old or older. Kids are usually the keenest to head up when asked for volunteers at a hypnosis show.
Justin Tranz took awhile with the induction which hypnotizes the volunteers. I kept thinking How long is this going to take? It seemed like ages to me, but it was 15 minutes long. Once they were hypnotized, he would bring them to the ground and the person was lying on the stage floor.
There’s always one or two people who are really deeply hypnotized and they’re usually the funniest. Justin had them do funny things like making the volunteers find a pillow which was a person and lay on them, playing instruments on their butts and pulling out a wedgie from inside their pants.
It was a good show, but he never had the volunteers open their eyes.
We walked down the street to Planet Hollywood and into Cabo Wabo. Ivan and I have been here before for drinks, but not for food.
Ivan usually does the ordering for us since I’m so indecisive. We each got a free margarita for checking in on Yelp. I didn’t think the server would give us two, but she did. Our server reminded me of Ellie Kemper (Erin from The Office). I thought the margaritas wouldn’t taste very strong since they were free, but they were strong and yummy.
We usually share our food during our meals. We started off with a big tortilla soup which was pretty good.
Ivan and I got Cilantro Jalapeño Chicken and Sammy’s Tequila Shrimp for our main courses. I started off with the Sammy’s Tequila Shrimp which was tasty. The sauce of the shrimp was delicious. We switched plates once we were done with our half.
The Cilantro Jalapeño Chicken was even tastier than the shrimp dish. The chicken breast was covered with a fried onion ring, jalapeño, jack cheese and jalapeño ranch over squash, corn, tomatoes, and poblano peppers. The menu says it’s spicy, but I didn’t find it very spicy. The mix of all ingredients were just amazing.
It was a fun Margarita Date Night.
On July 17, 2015, Ivan and I went to see 50 Shades! The Parody in the Windows Showroom at Bally’s. Our friends Matt and Sabrina were on tonight. Matt is the standby for Christian Grey.
The show started off with three women who are in a book club. One woman named Carol is very conservative. I didn’t even recognize that it was Sabrina. She had on a short blonde wig and she has dark brown hair in real life. One of the women recommends that they keep an open mind and read the 50 Shades of Grey book.
Christian Grey is played by Matt who is overweight. He actually used to be a lot bigger since he recently lost over 100 pounds. He showed his big stomach when he was wearing a red singlet. Ana kept saying Katherine Kavanagh. Katherine Kavanagh was portrayed as a drunk slut who kept saying her catchphrase That’s Bullshit! Jose was a guy who kept dancing around and singing songs about how much he likes Ana.
They sang funny songs like the one where Ana wants to fill her hole. It covered the first book with Ana discovering his kinky side and even a funny helicopter scene. The set was really basic with a few tables that were moved around during the show. The Windows Showroom is quite wide, so it’s not really ideal for a show. It’s hard to play to a crowd with that layout. But, it seemed like the audience were enjoying it. I wasn’t expecting much, but the show was really funny. Matt was funny as Christian. Sabrina was great as the conservative woman.
I wore a dress I haven’t worn in ages. Ivan thought it looked like I was wearing a nightie (lingerie), so then I felt all naked wearing it. It seemed rather short, but I thought I looked good.
Ivan drove us to The Palms and we went to the new restaurant Lao Sze Chuan. Ivan read that the restaurant is famous in Chicago.
Ivan had a Groupon for this restaurant which included the unlimited Hot Pot with an appetizer and the beverage package. Ivan asked the waiter about what we can order with the Hot Pot and he said anything. He was looking at the Groupon and said That’s a good deal, I don’t know how the restaurant is going to make any money.
The waiter came back and asked if we wanted to order. Ivan asked him about the beverage package. The waiter said you can order anything. Ivan asked “Even the cocktails?” He said Yes and then he said Let me check. He went away to ask his manager, but he seemed to give up and came back a few minutes later and said “Anything. I don’t care this restaurant is owned by the casino, so it’s not my money.” Sure, that’s a great attitude to have for the customer.. but not the owner. Ivan ordered two cocktails.
The waiter came back and said “Sorry to disappoint you, but you can’t order cocktails. You can order beer or wine”. Ok.. That sucks. We decided to get the red wine instead.
The String Bean Spicy Black Bean Sauce came out for our starter which was tasty and spicy.
Later on, the ingredients we ordered and the hot pot came out which is on a stove. We got the two flavored broths, one was mild and the other was spicy. Ivan thought that they should have brought out the hot pot while we were eating our starter since it took forever to boil.
The hot pot was really high since it was on the stove and a cutting board, so Ivan put in all the vegetables, seafood and chicken to cook and he served it up when they finished cooking.
The chicken tasted alright. I liked the tofu, noodles and fish the best. Ivan’s favorites were the Enoki mushrooms, tofu and fish. The spicy broth was tastier. It didn’t come with rice which we thought was weird. Ivan ordered it. The waiter said there’s a charge, but decided to give it to us for free. We loved his funny “I don’t care” attitude. I thought the food was good. Ivan has been sick of hot pots and swore we’d never go to a shabu shabu or hot pot place again. He has said this before, but new restaurants open up and then he wants to try it. Ivan thought the food was ok. He thought the restaurant was fancier. He wished he bought the Groupon for the food.
The food was good, but the service was really bad. Our waiter paid attention to his other tables, but rarely came to check up on ours. We saw the busboys more than we saw our waiter.
It was a great Spicy 50 Shades Date Night.
