Cameron Hughes Wine Review

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Cameron Hughes Wine. All opinions are my own.

I was happy when I got the chance to review the wine from Cameron Hughes Wine. I love wine, especially red wine. I received a big box filled with six wine bottles. It was nicely packed to ensure the wines wouldn’t break during shipping. A paper listed all the wines that were included in the wine sampler.

Cameron Hughes Wine believes that good wine shouldn’t be expensive. The company doesn’t own any vineyards or wineries. The company searches for the best wines and negotiates the best price. The company has agreements where they keep the wine source producer or the winery name a secret and that’s how they can offer such great wine at affordable prices. That’s good news for the average wine drinker!

Cameron Hughes Wine Review

I received 6 wines in the ‘Introduction to CH Wine’ wine sampler: five red wines and one white wine. I asked my friend Noelle to join me and Ivan in tasting the wine. We had a fun afternoon drinking wine and chatting.

Wine Reviews

Cameron Hughes Wine Review

1. 2015 Santa Barbara “Limestone Cowboy” Chardonnay – Lot 553
Ivan and I thought this wine was dry and bitter. Noelle thought it smelled of citrus while Ivan smelled apricot, blackberries, and lemon. I gave this wine a 4.5 out of 10 rating.

2. 2015 Oregon Pinot Noir – Lot 539
I thought this wine smelled oaky and tasted of blackberries. Ivan tasted blueberries and coffee. Noelle thought it was a semi-sweet wine that tasted of pomegranate and cherries. Noelle thought it wasn’t your typical Pinot wine. My rating for this wine was 5 out of 10.

3. 2014 Santa Ynez Valley Syrah/Grenache – Lot 530
I smelled cherries and tasted cranberry while Ivan tasted the strawberry and black tea. Noelle smelled smokey tobacco bark. She really liked this smooth wine that she thought tasted of dark cherries and strawberries. I enjoyed this wine and gave it an 8 out of 10 rating.

4. 2013 Napa Valley Meritage – Lot 484
None of us had ever heard of the Meritage blend. Red Meritage is a mix of the “noble” Bordeaux varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and the rarer St. Macaire, Gros Verdot and Carmenère. I thought this wine smelled sweet and tasted of strawberries. Noelle thought it smelled of a medley of fruits and tasted of sugared plums and cherries. This was everybody’s favorite wine of the sampler. It is delicious! I gave it a 9 out of 10 rating.

5. 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – Lot 601
Ivan thought this was a classic Cab. I thought it smelled of plum and tasted of blackberries. Noelle thought it tasted of figs and dates. I gave this wine a 7.5 out of 10.

6. 2014 Red Mountain Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Syrah – Lot 575
I thought this last wine tasted peppery and it had a smooth taste. Ivan tasted gooseberry. Noelle really enjoyed this wine and thought it smelled of leather and tasted of blueberries and pomegranate. I gave this red blend a 7.5 out of 10.

It was fun taste testing the wines. We were usually way off with our smells and tastes, but we had fun and enjoyed drinking the wines. It made us all very happy. We’re definitely going to review more wines, but not six in one sitting unless we perfect our wine spitting.

This sampler is a great way to taste a few of the wines that Cameron Hughes Wine offers. The wines tasted great. I’m definitely going to buy some of the Meritage wine. I would highly recommend Cameron Hughes Wine to purchase tasty wine at a good price. Go check out the wines at Cameron Hughes Wine here and pick up a bottle or one of their great samplers.
